About the event
Hair Extensions: Before the Method
Hair extensions can provide far more than additional length—but creating a natural-looking, comfortable, and safe result requires more than simply learning an installation technique. This introductory class gives licensed stylists a comprehensive look at the knowledge and decision-making behind professional extension services. No previous extension experience is required. You will learn how extension hair is sourced, how different methods affect the natural hair, how to select and personalize an approach for each guest, and how to create results that do not have the obvious “extension look.”
What You Will Learn
Where extension hair comes from and how sourcing can affect its quality
Unconventional solutions extensions can provide beyond adding length
How extensions can cause damage—and how proper planning, placement, tension, and maintenance help prevent it
How to personalize the extension method for each guest’s natural hair, lifestyle, goals, and maintenance commitment
How to properly match extension colors and create a believable blend
An introduction to sew-in, tape-in, clip-in, and keratin-tip extension methods
How to determine how much extension hair each guest needs
How to cut and shape extension hair so it integrates naturally with the guest’s haircut
How to efficiently plan appointments that combine extensions with cutting or color services
Proper home-care practices and how to recognize signs of improper care
How to remove extensions correctly and safely
Common mistakes stylists make during consultation, selection, installation, blending, maintenance, and removal
Additional practical principles that can help you approach extension services with greater knowledge and confidence
This class is designed for stylists who are curious about extensions, considering adding them to their service menu, or looking for a stronger understanding of the principles behind a successful extension service. It is not necessary to already offer extensions or be certified in an installation method.
Refreshments and Class Schedule
Complimentary light refreshments and beverages will be provided throughout the class. The class will continue without a scheduled lunch break, so attendees are encouraged to eat beforehand or bring anything additional they may need during the class.
